LOPAR is the furthermost
village on the island, a picturesque tourist place 14 km away from the
old town of Rab.
The prehistoric site on its
promontory Zidine ( Walls) and liburnian hill forts scattered all over
the peninsula bear testimony to its' being populated in the ancient times.
Lopar people are most strongly
connected with the past, they kept the lifestyle and most important of
all, their dialect. They are particularly proud of their fellow ancient
villager, carver Marin who founded the 1st republic, a small town- state
Republic of San Marino on Mount Titano in Italy.
Besides the fertile valley,
Lopar has a huge sandy beach: after Bol on island Brac in Dalmatia, this
is the most famous beach on Adria: Paradise beach, as it is called, ideal
for non swimmers and children, situated in San Marino area, where is also
a hotels village and the biggest camping on the island. It takes about
500 m until the sea comes half the waist of an adult on this, in summer
quite crowded beach.
Luckily, this is not the
only sandy beach in Lopar: all the other bays are sandy, surrounded
by the pine trees.
Old Lopar towards the ferry
is much silent area in comparison to the side with the camping.
Now days tourism has changed
the face of this village considerably.
Due to its favourable natural
position and beauty, the tourism is on this part of the island well developed,
with numerous private houses with quality accommodation in rooms or apartments.
